Signal Flow Mobile App for Android and iOS
The idea for Signal Flow came from a Colorado Sound Engineer during the setup for a major music festival. The goal was to improve communication between the different roles in setting up for musical shows. He started by using Dropbox with a combination of excel spreadsheets and pdf image files. He shared these two files with the other people on his team so that when he made a change to the spreadsheets, all he had to do was radio the group and let them know something had changed.
It was a vast improvement over the days of chicken scratches on an already marked-up piece of paper being run back and forth from stage to sound booth. After the show, the team discussed the marked improvement over the way they had done things in the past. It was that conversation that led Joey from Howell Media to reach out to me to work with him to build an app that would not only emulate the system that he had come up with, but also improve it even more. With an app, he could allow multiple people to make changes to a stage setup in real time and create a real standard to a process that has been largely based on "this is the way that I do it" instead of "this is the way the industry does it".
In less than a year from the initial idea, his app is already being used by well over a thousand people across the globe. He continues to come up with more ideas that will grow the app and evolve it into a tool that will be a must have for every member of the music industry from the musician to the production manager.
